In today's society, we are presented with the idea that we have equality and still to this day, people of color face discrimination. The concept of discrimination is very grey because it comes in all forms, not just on race. In today's world, we preach that we want to all get along, all races, and yet still we are dividing ourselves. Modern segregation is real, and as much as we like to think our society has grew from that part of history, it is still sadly in place. Being "racist" is not something anyone is born with, it is something that is taught and it's taught because people grow up and believe stereotypes and then teach that to their youth. This then leads us down a road where we have tried for so long to steer off of. As much as we'd like to see less of it, racial discrimination happens every day, and it's from all races. Everyone is apart of it, and segregation between our cultures, our social groups and stereotypes are what lead us down the road

Opposing Viewpoints

Delilah Calvo Professor JoAnne Harris English 1101- Section 30 1 April 2020 Racial Profiling "Racial Profiling."  Gale Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection , Gale, 2020.  Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints , https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/PC3010999266/OVIC?u=ggcl&sid=OVIC&xid=199eedaa. Accessed 1 Apr. 2020.             Racial profiling is a societal issue that we have been dealing with for many years and even now it still is present. Racial profiling is when you suspect someone of committing a crime based on their stereotypes tied to their race and in the United States this is a huge issue. We see it in law enforcement, education, our jobs, when you travel and just everyday life it unfortunately happens. It’s dated all the way back to when we passed the Fugitive Slave Act in 1793, it set a course of other acts to come into play about putting restrictions on a specific race. Racial profiling was high in New York back in the mid-’90s when they had the

MOOSIC

If you look around you see almost every one is listening to music and there is a reason why we are constantly listening to music. Scientists state that dopamine is released whenever someone listens to something they like, and that's why you get goosebumps sometimes when listening to that Beyonce. It gives us this feel good feeling, and improves our mood. It's proven that music activates emotional, motor and creative areas of the brain, therefore affecting not just our sense of sound but other senses.  The famous "Stand By Me" by Ben King is a universally loved song and has been sung by many over the years. Even to this day, we have famous artists, street performers, local town musicians, all performing this song. This song personally gives me a feeling of hope and shared love and it does give out a message. Most subliminal messages are sent through ads, movies, songs etc. and to figure out what the message is, it's easier to break it down to fully understand wha

BONES

Image
Our skeleton is made of up 206 bones by the time we die, but when we are born we about 94 more bones (7 ways Kid Bones Are Different From Adult Bones). Seems odd that we end up with less bones but why do we lose so many? Where do they go? All good questions to ask the experts.  Bones serve as a great function for the human body by  providing mobility, support, and protection for our organs (The Basics of Bone in Health and Disease). They undergo this process from the beginning called modeling where it allows growth of the new bone at the same spot of the old bone, essentially forming one whole new bone. This process typically happens during the early ages of life, where soon when a human turns about 20, all their bones have reached their peak mass, therefore the process of remodeling starts (The Basics of Bone in Health and Disease). Remodeling is when your bones essentially repair the damage that has been made to them. Remodeling happens every 10 years and is essential to bones

Love is in the Air

Image
St. Valentine surrounded by the symbolic birds. For as long as I can remember Valentine's Day has been a day for everyone to show their love to one another by exchanging gifts, candies, cards and whatever else people think of. It's a day to have an excuse to be extra sweet to your significant other. Aside from that, it's just another regular day; but what made February 14, so special? Why is romance so heavily attached to this day? There are multiple theories abut the origin of Valentine's Day. Some surprisingly have very little to do with romance, and have more to do with death than anything. Some people believe that Valentine's Day comes from the decapitations of two different men by the name of St. Valentine, both martyrs. The first evidence found was that  Emperor Claudius II executed one of the St. Valentines because he was " secretly officiating weddings for Roman soldiers against the emperor's wishes, making him, in some eyes, a proponen

Wrestling: Where did it all begin?

Image
Ancient Greek warriors wrestling. As humans it is natural for us to be competitive. Whether it being in physical challenges, or mental challenges, it is instinctual for almost all humans to compete with the people around them. This instinct has been around since the dawn of time, and there is no way of stopping it because it is implemented in all of our modern sports now. Researchers say that wrestling is one of the oldest sports ever recorded, and when it was used back for the Olympics it started to get its recognition and soon enough it spread worldwide  (History of Wrestling). As we know, back before we had a way to record ourselves, people would draw out images to tell stories about all kinds of things. They used writing and drawing as a way to communicate with other cultures. In France, researchers have found a cave covered in ancient drawings depicting men wrestling, and once this cave was found they went on a hunt for more and found in Mongolia, Libya and even Japan that w
